Tarot reading is an art form that has been around for centuries. With over 25 years of experience, I have been fortunate enough to hone my skills in reading, creating and teaching tarot. Though I am not the 'gatekeeper' of all things tarot, I am here to share my experience with you as guidance.

If you want to get to know, like, and love your tarot cards quickly, it's important to choose the right deck. Visuals are essential in tarot as it is a pictorial medium. To resonate with and remember the cards' individual traits and messages, it's important to pick a deck whose illustrations speak to you. I struggled with a certain deck for 15 years and it was only then I realized that its minor arcana was overly simplistic.

Keep your spreads simple, maybe even just one card for the first few months. Don't be tempted to draw lots of cards and interpret them without prompting or questioning. Write down your questions beforehand and draw one card for each question. I never pull more than six cards at a time as it can quickly become overwhelming.

When starting out, be patient with yourself. Speed only comes with time and practice. At first, you will feel clumsy and it's natural to look up every card and agonize over how it answers your question. Write stuff down, return to it, and mull on it. This will help you remember and resonate when it comes to reading again.

Trust your intuition when you draw a card and can't figure out how it answers your question. Be intuitive, daydream, and let your mind wander to associations, feelings, and memories and see what comes forth. This is all valid.

When it comes to rituals and customs, listen to them, respect them, but apply your own 'eye roll test'. If it makes you want to roll your eyes then it's not for you, but if it intrigues you, give it a try. Don't be afraid to create your own rituals or activities that accompany your readings.

Finally, have fun with your tarot reading and make it your own! Tarot is an art form that can be enjoyed in different ways and the most important thing to remember is to enjoy yourself.
