Paul Sinha, the beloved chaser on the hit show The Chase, recently shared an unexpected consequence of his weight loss journey. The star, known as 'the Sinnerman', has been open about his health struggles since being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2017 and Parkinson's in 2019. As part of his journey, Paul participated in the ITV documentary Diabetes: The Fast Fix, where he limited his calorie intake to 800 a day and lost two stone, successfully putting his diabetes into remission. However, his drastic weight loss had an unintended side effect - costing ITV a lot of money in replacement suits.
In his book Once Sinha Lifetime: Comedy, Disaster and One Man's Quest for Happiness, Paul shared, "I lost plenty of weight, costing The Chase dozens of pounds in replacement suits. Far more importantly, I successfully put my diabetes in remission." Despite this costly mishap, Paul's health has greatly improved and he continues to be a beloved member of The Chase team.
Two years after his diabetes diagnosis, Paul revealed that he also suffers from Parkinson's disease. This condition causes involuntary shaking, stiff muscles, and slower movement - all of which could potentially affect Paul's quick-thinking abilities. However, he remains determined to fight the disease with every breath and has no plans of stepping down from The Chase anytime soon.
In fact, Paul sees his role on the show as a way to measure the progression of his Parkinson's. "It's a good way of measuring its progression because my results haven't gotten worse since I was diagnosed with Parkinson's. It's a good way of measuring my brain's ability and function," he shared with The Daily Star. "I've always said that if I felt that the ability was going down, I'd call it myself and I still stand by that. But it's definitely not going down, so that's fine."
Despite his health struggles, Paul has continued to shine on The Chase and has even tied the knot with his partner Oliver Levy in December 2019. During a recent appearance on Loose Women, Paul opened up about his experience of coming out to his mother. He shared that a friend had outed him at a house party, robbing him of the agency of sharing the news himself. "It was an interesting process coming out to my mum," he said. "Somebody at a house party that we were hosting had a few too many drinks, rang up my home number and went 'your son's gay!' and put the phone down." Despite the unconventional way of coming out, Paul has found love and support in his partner and continues to thrive in his career.
The Sinnerman's sharp wit and quick-thinking abilities have made him a fan favorite on The Chase, and it's clear that his mind is as sharp as ever. In fact, he even joked about having a poll to find out which friend had outed him to his mother. "I still don't know which one of my friends it was. So we're going to have a poll, give you the list of all my friends that it could have been. I won't say the bookies' odds, because then Rishi Sunak's team will put a side bet on it," he quipped.
