Paul Sinha lost The Chase a lot of money because of a specific reason.
Paul Sinha, famous for his role as 'the Sinnerman' on The Chase, recently shared an unexpected outcome of his weight loss journey - it ended up costing ITV a significant amount of money. Paul has been very open about his health struggles, having been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2017 and Parkinson's disease in 2019. In an effort to improve his health, Paul participated in the ITV documentary Diabetes: The Fast Fix, where he drastically reduced his calorie intake to only 800 a day. The result? Paul lost two stone and was able to put his diabetes into remission.

However, Paul's impressive weight loss had an unintended consequence - he had to replace all of his suits on The Chase due to his smaller size. "I lost plenty of weight, costing The Chase dozens of pounds in replacement suits," Paul shared in his book, Once Sinha Lifetime: Comedy, Disaster and One Man's Quest for Happiness. Despite the financial consequences, Paul considers his successful remission from diabetes to be far more important.

Just two years after his diabetes diagnosis, Paul revealed that he also suffers from Parkinson's disease. This condition causes involuntary shaking, stiff muscles, and slower movement, which could prove challenging for someone like Paul who relies on quick thinking. In 2019, Paul released a statement saying, "I will fight this with every breath." However, he has not let his diagnosis slow him down and continues to appear on The Chase.

Paul has been open about his Parkinson's diagnosis, using his role on The Chase as a way to measure his condition's progression. "It's a good way of measuring its progression because my results haven't gotten worse since I got Parkinson's. It's a good way of measuring my brain's ability and function," he shared with The Daily Star. Despite his diagnosis, Paul has no plans to step down from The Chase anytime soon. "I've always said that if I felt that the ability was going down, I'd call it myself, and I still stand by that. But it's definitely not going down, so that's fine," he added.

In the months following his Parkinson's diagnosis, Paul married his partner Oliver Levy in December 2019. During an appearance on Loose Women, Paul shared a humorous story about coming out to his mother. "It was an interesting process coming out to my mum. Somebody at a house party that we were hosting had a few too many drinks, rang up my home number and went 'your son's gay!' and put the phone down," he recalled. Unfortunately, this wasn't how Paul wanted his mother to find out, as he had wanted to share the news himself. "I thought it'd be a more organic and sweet process, and it was difficult to have the agency of the decision taken away from me," he explained.

Despite the unexpected reveal, Paul has maintained his sharp wit and humor, jokingly saying he still doesn't know which of his friends spilled the beans. "So we're going to have a poll, give you the list of all my friends that it could have been. I won't say the bookies' odds because then Rishi Sunak's team will put a side bet on it," he joked.
