Sean Beaver has been shocked to discover the new cycle path between Herne Bay and Whitstable, Kent, is already riddled with cracks and crumbling edges. The mile-long path was opened just six months ago as part of wider improvements costing £300,000.
Sean, an antique dealer from Herne Bay, regularly cycles the route to visit his brother in Whitstable. He claims to have counted 233 splits in the path’s surface, along with crumbling edges.
“At this rate the new path will be unusable in the next few months,” Sean expressed. “It is really disappointing because that path is such a benefit. Originally it was just a footpath. This is a waste of taxpayers’ money.”
The project was led by Kent County Council as part of a wider programme of improvements. Sean, 44, was hopeful that the new path would be a great addition for cyclists, but he is now questioning the quality of the work.
“I can’t believe how quickly this path has deteriorated,” Sean said. “It’s a shame that these improvements have been such a failure.”
