Sagar: Divisional Commissioner Virendra Singh Rawat has set up a three-member committee to investigate the reasons behind the damage caused to the Pauri-Jaitgarh lake due to recent heavy rainfall. This inquiry was ordered following a report from the Damoh Collector. The committee is comprised of the Superintending Engineer of the Rural Engineering Service, the Superintending Engineer of PWD, and the Superintending Engineer of the Water Resources Department.
The committee has been instructed to complete the investigation in three days and submit their report to the commissioner. Divisional Commissioner Virendra Singh Rawat has also ordered the immediate suspension of Damoh Sub-Divisional Officer LK Twivedi and Sub-Engineer DK Asati of the Water Resources Department in light of the reports from the Collector.
An inquiry revealed that both Twivedi and Asati were aware of the possibilities of the lake bursting, yet failed to act. As a result, the lake water flooded many villages in the district, affecting more than 15,000 people. On the night of July 24th, the Pauri-Jaitgarh lake in Tendukheda started to overflow.
