Olympic legend and Strictly Come Dancing star Greg Rutherford is said to be joining the Dancing On Ice line-up in 2024. This is after he suffered a shoulder injury that put an end to his Olympic dreams.
According to a source, Greg was excited to take on the challenge of a new project. They said, “Greg was gutted after his Olympic dreams were derailed, but it basically freed up his calendar so when the Dancing On Ice offer came along, he decided to chat with bosses. As an athlete, he loves having something to focus on and a project to train for, so this will give him something to channel his competitive spirit into.”
The source also said that Greg will be an asset on the ice given his athletic background. “Ice skating is arguably more athletic than ballroom dancing, so Greg should really come into his own on the show. He’ll put the hours into training and be laser-focussed on going all the way.”
Greg previously competed on the 14th season of Strictly in 2016, where he was eliminated in week nine. He also won the 14th season of Celebrity MasterChef in 2019.
The latest celebrity to join the Dancing On Ice cast is Love Island winner Amber Davies. On Friday's episode of Lorraine, Amber told viewers that it finally ‘feels real’.
She said, “It’s out there now. I’ve been in this Dancing On Ice bubbled and today it feels real. No, I can’t go back!”
Amber admitted that she gets more nervous as she gets older, but she hopes to contain her adrenaline. She said, “I would definitely say that I’m an adrenaline junkie but I do get more nervous as I get older and I hope that I can contain them, I don’t want the adrenalin to get the better of me.”
Greg's reps have been approached for comment, while ITV declined to comment. Dancing On Ice is set to return to ITV in 2024.
