Odisha plans to create a new policy to boost tourism by promoting the state as a popular wedding destination, according to Parida.
Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, was buzzing with excitement as Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida announced the state's plan to become the preferred wedding destination in the country. In a press conference on Saturday, Parida, who is also in charge of the Tourism department, highlighted the state's many attractions such as stunning beaches, scenic hills and mountains, majestic temples, and a beautiful coastline that make it a perfect spot for tourists.

Recognizing the potential of these sites to be popular wedding venues, the government is taking steps to promote them as such. This not only benefits the state's economy, but also provides a unique and memorable experience for the couples and their families. With this in mind, the state will soon launch "Wed in Odisha", a wedding destination policy that aims to create necessary infrastructure, including hotels, to cater to destination weddings.

Parida also mentioned the state's abundance of beautiful temples, which could be converted into wedding destinations for those looking for a traditional and spiritual ceremony. The government will identify and promote these temples as potential venues for destination weddings, keeping in mind the growing trend of couples choosing to tie the knot in such settings.

In addition to the wedding destination policy, the government is also working on a homestay policy and an adventure sports policy. These initiatives will not only boost tourism, but also create numerous entrepreneurial opportunities in the state. Parida also announced the 6th edition of the Odisha Travel Bazaar, in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, from February 24 to 27 in Bhubaneswar.

The main goal of this event, called Odisha Travel Bazaar 2025, is to aggressively promote the state's tourist destinations to both domestic and international markets. Over 100 domestic tour operators from 30 cities across India and more than 30 foreign tour operators from 17 countries, including Australia, the UK, Germany, and Singapore, will be participating in this event. According to Tourism secretary Balwant Singh, this flagship buyer-seller meet will bring together national and international travel and tour operators, destination management companies, and sellers from Odisha.

The event will primarily focus on B2B meetings between 70 sellers from the state's tourism sector and both domestic and foreign tour operators. This will be followed by familiarization trips to key tourism destinations such as Bhitarkanika, Raghurajpur, Puri-Konark, and the diamond triangle. This event is a great opportunity for the state to showcase its rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality to the world.
