Odisha government to offer pilot training to 50 tribal students as part of preparatory program.
The state government of Odisha has taken a commendable step towards empowering its tribal community. In an effort to prepare them for a professional course, the government has announced that 50 tribal students, with a majority being women, will receive preparatory pilot training.

To ensure the best quality of training, the Commerce and Transport Department of Odisha has released a tender to hire a professional agency. This agency will be responsible for identifying 300 tribal students, from which the top 50 will be selected through a strict screening process. The selected students will then undergo an eight-week training program in Bhubaneswar, covering all aspects of airline cadet pilot assessment.

The main goal of this coaching is to equip the candidates with the necessary skills and knowledge to clear the cadet pilot assessment and excel in the basic foundation programme syllabus set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. It will also provide them with an overview of the flying training course. The program will cover various subjects such as English proficiency, personal development, self-improvement, grooming, and basic aviation knowledge. Additionally, the students will be trained in human performance and limitations, aptitude and psychometric tests, group discussion and interview, and portable simulator training for hand-eye-foot coordination and spatial orientation.

The selected private agency will conduct the training for a period of eight weeks, with a teaching schedule of six hours per day for five days a week. The curriculum will include self-supervised studies, computer-based training, and mock examinations. Regular assessments will be held after completion of each module, and special training will be provided during weekends for students who require extra support.

Upon completion of the preparatory training, the 50 students will be given the opportunity to appear for the final round of selection by private airlines such as Air India and IndiGo. From this pool, the top 10 students will be selected based on their performance in the airline's own tests. These students will then undergo technical training to become professional pilots.

The Transport Department official has expressed hope that this initiative will not only provide a platform for the tribal students to enter the aviation industry but also enhance their overall development. This step by the Odisha government is a testament to their commitment towards promoting equal opportunities and empowering marginalized communities.
