Odisha government instructs officials to prepare for heatwave.
The Odisha government has issued a warning to all district collectors on Wednesday, urging them to stay vigilant as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heatwave conditions in various districts of the state. In a letter addressed to all collectors, Special Relief Commissioner Satyabrata Sahu informed that the maximum day temperature is expected to soar above 40 degrees Celsius in many interior districts. He also added that a few coastal districts may experience a temperature rise of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above the normal range.

As the week progresses, the coastal areas of Odisha are expected to face hot and humid conditions. In light of this, the SRC has urged the collectors to conduct a thorough review of the basic health facilities available at community health centers, primary healthcare centers, sub-divisional and district headquarters hospitals to tackle any heat-related issues. Sahu has also advised the health department to assess the involvement of doctors and healthcare workers at the grassroots level.

According to the IMD's predictions, several districts including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bolangir, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal may experience heatwave conditions on Wednesday. Similarly, other districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati are likely to face hot and humid weather during the day.

As of 11:30 am on Wednesday, the highest temperature of 42.8 degrees Celsius was recorded in Jharsuguda, followed by Sambalpur, Hirakud, Rourkela, and Keonjhar. On Tuesday, three places in Odisha, namely Boudh, Sonepur, and Titlagarh, witnessed a scorching temperature of 45 degrees or above.

The state government has advised all citizens to take necessary precautions and stay hydrated during this heatwave. They have also requested people to avoid going out during peak afternoon hours and protect themselves from direct exposure to the sun. Let us all work together to stay safe and beat the heat!
