The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, held a meeting on Thursday to review the progress of the ongoing paddy procurement process in the state. With the procurement process starting on November 20, Majhi emphasized the need for officials to closely monitor the involvement of middlemen. He made it clear that the middlemen should not be allowed to take advantage of the farmers at any cost.
Currently, the paddy procurement process is taking place in nine districts of the state - Bargarh, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Nabarangpur, Subarnapur, and Koraput. The latest reports show that 37,079 farmers have sold 1,81,196 tons of paddy and have received payments of Rs 323.73 crore as minimum support price and Rs 112.61 crore as input assistance. Majhi highlighted that the procurement rate of Rs 2,300 per quintal, along with an additional input assistance of Rs 800 per quintal, along with the PM-Kisan and CM-Kisan schemes, are playing a crucial role in empowering the farmers. He added that over 17 lakh farmers will benefit from these initiatives.
During the meeting, Majhi stressed the importance of ensuring an efficient and error-free implementation of the paddy procurement program. He emphasized that the farmers should not face any problems during this process. The Chief Minister also instructed officials to promptly address any grievances raised by the farmers.
The meeting also brought up discussions on various aspects of the procurement process, such as the token system, tagging system, and the cooperation of millers. The Chief Minister's office released a statement highlighting the key points discussed during the meeting.
