Bhubaneswar was abuzz with excitement as Mohan Majhi, the newly appointed chief minister of Odisha, began his official duties from the State Guest House on Thursday. According to officials, the Chief Minister's Office, which is located on the third floor of the state secretariat Lok Seva Bhawan, was not yet ready for use.
Majhi, a well-known tribal leader representing Keonjhar in the Assembly, arrived at the State Guest House after returning from a visit to Puri. He immediately got down to business, conducting official meetings on the first floor of the building. This floor had been temporarily designated as the location for the CMO to function from.
During his meetings, Majhi discussed various matters with senior officials from the parliamentary affairs and housing and urban development departments, as well as the secretary of the Odisha Assembly. It is being reported that the CMO in the Lok Seva Bhawan will undergo renovations to suit the preferences of the new chief minister before he starts using it on a regular basis.
Interestingly, the chamber where former chief minister Naveen Patnaik used to conduct his duties has been closed for the past four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sources claim that Patnaik had been operating from his residence, Naveen Niwas, during this time.
Addressing rumors about the removal of the 5T Charter and 'Mo Sarkar' boards, which were introduced by the previous Biju Janata Dal regime, the Majhi administration clarified that these reports were false. The Information and Public Relations department stated that the information was posted on a fake Facebook account of the CM.
The CMO also released a statement saying that Majhi, along with his two Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, visited the Jagannath Temple in Puri as common devotees. The statement further mentioned that there were no special arrangements made for the CM's visit and he offered prayers to Lord Jagannath just like any other devotee.
In an effort to connect with the people, the new chief minister also visited Suando village, the birthplace of Utakalmani Gopabandhu Das, a revered figure in Odisha. The official release stated that Majhi interacted with the locals and learned more about their daily lives. The people of Suando were thrilled to have the CM amongst them and welcomed him with open arms.
