I've been playing a lot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer lately and it's been great. The campaign is admittedly bad, and it's not hard to see why people think it was meant to be DLC, but when it comes right down to it, who cares as long as it's fun?
I don't think the reviews of the game were fair, especially the user reviews. The Metascore of 56 is okay, but the user score of 1.9 is ridiculous. People knew this was going to be DLC months before the game came out, yet they act surprised when it turns out to be true. If you're informed enough to be posting user scores on Metacritic, you should have known about the DLC.
I think if people give it a chance, they'll find it's a really enjoyable game. The multiplayer is a lot of fun and the most enjoyable I've had in years.
When I saw the clips of Silent Hill: Ascension, I was at a loss for words. The dialogue looks like parodies of Resident Evil, but without the campiness. I was already worried about the Silent Hill 2 remake, but now I'm even more concerned. It looks like the game is successful though, with microtransactions and all. It's sad to think of all the progress made in video game dialogue over the last two decades being taken back like this.
As for Nintendo and Sony at the Game Awards, I don't think either of them will show much more than a montage. Nintendo has nothing left to show and are likely preparing for the Switch 2, while Sony is...whatever Sony has become. There's an outside chance they could reveal the God of War half-sequel, but why announce it at an event with millions of gamers when you can do it on a blog that looks like Sony hates video games?
I was shocked to see Sony hit a new low in Monday when adverts appeared on screen while playing an offline race in GT Sport. It covered about a tenth of the screen and was selling a PS Plus sub and two game deals. I haven't seen anyone else mention this, except for the Assassin's Creed Mirage ad. Has this happened to anyone else?
And finally, it's unbelievable how much extra money people are expected to pay on Diablo 4. Despite being free to download, it seems like people end up spending more on live service games than offline ones with no microtransactions. Not only does playing the game feel like a job, but you have to pay the company to let you work for them!
Microsoft could potentially announce something big at the Game Awards, like a partnership with Nintendo. Maybe Sea of Thieves and all future games from Rare going to Nintendo Switch 2. It makes sense for both companies and it would reinvigorate the studio and grow their audience. I know they're competitors, but it's strange why we don't see more of these collaborations, including with Sony.

Have you been playing Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 lately? If so, you know it's a lot of fun, despite the bad campaign mode. But have the reviews been too negative towards the game? This is a question I've been pondering lately, especially when I look at the Metascore and User Score of the game. The Metascore is 56, which I don't agree with, but the User Score of 1.9 is just ridiculous. I think it's unfair for gamers to be allowed to post reviews on sites like Metacritic, when they've been warned about the DLC for months before the game was released.
Speaking of horror, I don't know whether to laugh or cry at what we've seen from the Silent Hill: Ascension clips. The ‘I like to make jams’ scene is almost a parody of itself, and it's like Resident Evil without the camp. It's just plain bad, and I'm not convinced that Konami know what they're doing. It seems like a successful game, though, with microtransactions and whales paying for it all. It's like all the progress we've made with video game dialogue over the last two decades is being walked back.
As for The Game Awards, I'm not expecting any big announcements from Sony or Nintendo. Sony might reveal the God Of War half-sequel, but I get the feeling they'd rather do it in a half-assed blog. Microsoft could have something interesting planned, though.
Finally, I was appalled to witness Sony hit a new marketing low on Monday when three adverts popped on screen while playing an offline race in GT Sport on my PlayStation 4. It's like full price games are now riddled with constant pop-up garbage. Has anyone else noticed similar ads?
The last thing I want to talk about is Diablo 4, and how much extra players are expected to pay on top of the £60 for the game. It's like you have to pay the company to let you work for them. I understand if you enjoy it, but it's a massive turn-off for someone who has never played these types of games.
It's been interesting to take a look at some of the topics that have been discussed lately, and I'm looking forward to hearing what other people have to say. Don't forget to email your thoughts to the address provided!
