Madikeri, Jul. 7: A Muslim Awareness Consultation Meeting was held by the Kodagu district unit of Karnataka Muslim Unity. The meeting presented various rights for the all-round development and empowerment of Muslims.

Speaking at the consultation meeting held at a private resort in Gudde Hosur near Kushalnagar, Karnataka Muslim Unity State President Jabbar Kalburgi called on Muslims to remain united to claim their constitutional rights as they are facing social and political discrimination.

He got the approval of the meeting that important rights should be presented before the government for the progress of Muslims with the cry of unity.

The decision of the previous BJP government in the state to abolish 4% reservation in 2B should be abandoned and the reservation should be continued as is and the reservation based on population should be increased from 4% to 8%.

The law should be amended to bring separate internal reservation for all castes in the total reservation of OBC in local bodies. Grants should be given to pre-primary, higher primary and high schools run by the governing bodies of the minority community. An action plan should be implemented for the building and infrastructure of educational institutions.

The state government should take a resolution opposing the new amendment act of the central government that will bring changes in the Waqf Board and curtail the rights and independence of Waqf. A copy of the resolution should be given to the court and the President.

The government should properly implement the order it has issued by giving priority and special opportunities to Muslim contractors who have licenses in the state.

The officials should be instructed to implement the Prime Minister's 15-point program in force in the country and steps should be taken to ensure that the schemes reach the people. Karnataka Muslim Unity demanded that the Karnataka Minority Commission and the departments should jointly hold quarterly meetings to review the progress of the schemes.The office bearers of the Kodagu district unit of Karnataka Muslim Unity were elected on this occasion. After the meeting unanimously agreed, senior K.A. Yakub was elected as the district president and Amin Mohisin as the district president of the youth unit.

The new president K.A. Yakub said that there are more than one crore Muslims in the state of Karnataka and the organization will fight for the rights of Muslims in the coming days.

Hameed Maulavi Suntikoppa, Ismail Napoklu, Hansa Kottamudi, Abdul Majeed Kushalnagar, Mustafa 7th Hoskote, Hakim Nellihudikeri, Abdul Rehman Bapu Gonikoppa, Izzas Virajpet, Majeed Siddapur, Mohideen Kutta and other prominent people were present.
