Mum thought her son had a viral infection, but it was actually a brain tumour, leaving her devastated.
Keiley Ebbs was shocked when her son, Jett, began to complain of pain in his arms and legs, experienced morning sickness and became clumsier than usual. She took him to the doctor, but they told her it was just a viral infection and to give him over-the-counter medication. Despite this, Keiley felt something more was wrong.

She pushed for further investigation, and after seven visits to the emergency room, a devastating scan revealed a brain tumour travelling down Jett’s spine. Keiley said she felt “frustrated” at being told the same thing over and over, and that she knew there was something seriously wrong with him.

Jett was immediately rushed to the hospital where he underwent a 10-hour surgery to remove the mass. Keiley said it all happened so quickly and that she remembers barely being able to speak in the ambulance ride. She even had to sign a form confirming she was aware that Jett “might never wake up”, which she found heartbreaking.

Thankfully, the surgery was successful and the tumour is now in remission. Unfortunately, it had wrapped around Jett's spine, leaving him almost paralysed and unable to walk. He now uses a wheelchair and doctors are still unable to provide a full prognosis.

Keiley wants other parents to follow their intuition and look out for any warning signs, pushing for answers just as she did. She said, “Don’t think that you are being an over-protective parent. Push and push if you think there is something wrong.” She also said that Jett has gone through it all with a smile on his face and is still full of life.
