The world was shattered for the families of Connor Lapworth and Corey Mavin after the two boys lost their lives in a three-way car crash just days before Christmas.
Connor, 18, of Blyth, and Corey, 15, also of Blyth, were passengers in the Suzuki Vitara, which was involved in a collision with a Range Rover Evoque and a Ford Focus.
Connor's mother, Jenna Parsons, remembered her ‘little firecracker’ on Facebook as the ‘life and soul’ of the family. She wrote, ‘My world has come crashing down tonight. Connor, you were the life and soul of this family. There is no one that could ever take your place, son.’
Corey's mother, Lisa Mavin, shared her grief on social media saying, ‘My world is shattered. I keep looking into his room expecting to see him there. I thought I heard him cough. His little brother asked if that was his voice he heard. I've never known pain like this. The last time I heard from him was 1.55pm that day. I feel so guilty. I wish it was me, but instead, I lay next to my boy while his heart took its last beat.’
The driver of the Range Rover, 36, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, while the 52-year-old woman driving the Ford Focus was uninjured. Northumbria Police are asking witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage of the local area to get in touch. Sergeant Russell Surrey said, ‘This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of the two young people who have sadly lost their lives and those who have suffered injuries in this collision. We will offer them all of the support they need and ask that their privacy is respected at this time.’
The mothers of Connor and Corey have been left devastated by their sons' tragic deaths. The families are being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time.
