Irene Major, 43, and her oil tycoon husband Sam Malin, are the proud parents of nine children, ranging from 2 months to 23 years old. Welcome to How I Parent, where we get a glimpse into how the nation is raising their kids.
Irene grew up in a large family herself, so it's no surprise that she wanted the same for her own children. "I come from a very large family myself, I am the seventh of nine children," she tells The Agency. "My Mother, God bless her, well and truly passed on the baton. Now I’ve matched my Mother, with that exact same ratio of nine kids!"
When it's time to give birth, Irene prefers to go to the luxurious Portland Hospital, favoured by the likes of Meghan Markle, Victoria Beckham and the royal family. "I prefer to call it the Portland Spa! I’ve given birth to eight of my nine children there, delivered by some of the world’s most renowned doctors," she says. "It is luxurious inside, and I’ve become such a regular there that they treat me like a celebrity. And the idea of popping a bottle of champagne after giving birth is a major plus point!"
The family calls the sprawling Grade II listed property, Ingress Abbey, their home. "It has been used as a film set in the past," Irene explains. "We are very blessed to call such an attractive place home. But we take very seriously our role as owners of this stunning historic property. I actually met the late Queen at an exclusive party a few years back. We had a long conversation, and it was one of the most memorable moments of my life."
Irene's day-to-day life includes managing school runs, the estate, and organising birthday parties, which happens on an almost monthly basis. Her parenting style is underpinned by both her military background and her spiritual attitude to life, which she inherited from her Mother.
The kids love to play in the sprawling grounds of Ingress Abbey, especially hide and seek. Of course, there are set rules, such as not getting lost in the cellars!
When she's not being a busy parent, Irene loves to shop and has a vast collection of Hermes and other designer goods. She also appears on shows such as Channel 5’s Billionaire Babies and This Morning. She has even posed for Playboy magazine four months after giving birth.
Irene and Sam also enjoy attending British social occasions, such as Royal Ascot. "I love everything about it, the glamour, the clothes, the top hats, and ladies and gents all glammed up. It’s spectacular!"
She is not worried about others judging her luxury lifestyle, as she and her husband built up their success through hard work. "This girl from Africa has achieved all of this," she says. "I’m living the dream."
