She is now one of two female apprentices on a scheme with over 340 trainees, and is currently training for a Level 4 construction site supervisor apprenticeship. Lynn Johnson, 54, spent three decades as a housing sales consultant, and was generally surrounded by other women in 'heels and lipstick'.
But when her son reached his teens, she left her position selling residences to begin constructing them, becoming one of just two female apprentices on a program with more than 340 trainees.
In spite of the difficulties that accompany the job, Lynn affirms that the early mornings and physical activities are worth it to observe her work come together.
She admits that she sometimes has to 'strictly enforce' male colleagues if their work is not up to par, but Lynn relishes her new profession and hopes to set up a construction business with her son, now 13.
