Morehouse College will be the first to use complete Spatial AI teaching assistants in their classrooms.
Morehouse College is taking a major step forward by introducing cutting-edge artificial intelligence into its classrooms this upcoming fall semester. As one of the leading institutions in the technology field, this historically Black college has already made history by being the first to offer classes in the Metaverse back in 2022. And now, they are continuing their innovative streak by becoming the first college to implement fully spatial AI teaching assistants.

This incredible achievement is all thanks to Morehouse's Metaversity director and senior professor in education, Muhsinah Morris. She, along with the help of key faculty members such as Ovell Hamilton, Ethell Vereen Jr., and Tanya Clark, developed this technology in the spring of 2021. With the support and funding from companies like Southern Company, Qualcomm, Meta, Unity, the National Science Foundation, and T-Mobile, Morris and her team were able to partner with VictoryXR, a platform that offers immersive virtual reality classrooms and campuses.

The AI teaching assistants will be available to assist Morehouse students starting in the fall semester of 2024. Not only are these assistants capable of handling assessments and office hours, but they are also accessible 24/7. Additionally, they offer 3D demonstrations, making the learning experience even more engaging and interactive.

Morris explains in a video shared by VictoryXR on LinkedIn that these AI teaching assistants are not your average chatbots. They are not only conversational but also 3D, and they can even speak Mandarin. The main advantage of having these assistants is that they provide personalized learning for each student according to their own schedules. This is the first time that fully functional AI teaching assistants are being deployed, and Morehouse College is paving the way for other institutions by incorporating this technology into their classrooms.

But it hasn't been an easy journey. Morris acknowledges that there have been some challenges along the way, but she attributes the success of this project to her amazing team. She expresses her pride in bringing this innovative technology to Morehouse, a prestigious HBCU located in Atlanta. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of her team, and Morris feels blessed to have such a talented group of individuals by her side.

In addition to this groundbreaking achievement, Morehouse is also hosting the 2024 Ascend National Conference, where they will be joined by over 100 stakeholders to discuss innovation and entrepreneurship. The college is truly making a name for itself in the world of technology and education, and we can't wait to see what other advancements they have in store for the future.
