Mobb Deep, the legendary rap duo from Queens, New York, has found themselves in hot water with a new lawsuit. Hardcore punk band Sick of It All has accused the group of copyright infringement, claiming they used their "Alleyway Crew" logo without consent. The logo features a fire-breathing dragon with a curved tail.
The lawsuit was filed by Bush Baby Zamagate, Inc, the owner of all of Sick of It All's intellectual property rights, on October 11. According to MTV, the band had asked the rap group to stop using the image as early as 1997, which they had been using for recording goods, live performances, and other services since 1987.
Supreme was also implicated in the lawsuit; they had used the logo in their June 2023 apparel collaboration with Mobb Deep. Fans seemed to be divided on the differences between the images when the news was posted on Instagram. One user wrote, "Interesting," while another commented, "The logo is changed drastically not sure how this will go. It's similar for sure but different."
Bush Baby Zamagate is seeking compensatory damages, as well as requesting that the defendants be banned from using any similar marks in connection with the provision of goods and services. Mobb Deep has yet to respond to the lawsuit, but surviving member Havoc has confirmed that fans can expect new music featuring vocals from Prodigy, as well as a project with Method Man. He said during an interview with People's Party, "I'm actively working on a Mobb Deep album now, as we speak. The family blessed me with a bunch of vocals by Prodigy, and soon as I leave here I'm goin' back to work."
