Michelle Keegan is reflecting on her time on Coronation Street, 10 years after her exit from the iconic show. The actress played Tina McIntyre for six years, a barmaid at the Rovers Return who was the first girlfriend of David Platt.
Since then, Michelle has enjoyed a hugely successful career, starring in BBC's Our Girl as Georgie Lane for four years, playing Tina Moore, wife of Bobby Moore, in the TV mini-series Tina and Bobby, and recently appearing in Sky One's Brassic and BBC One's Ten Pound Poms.
Speaking to The Guardian, Michelle shared her appreciation for her time on Coronation Street and how hard it was to leave. “It was just such a level of love when you walked into that place," she said. "It was the best job, the best people. It was a really hard decision to go. I could have stayed there my whole life. I feel very protective of it and very proud. It comes with a sense of warmth. I hear the music and I'm home.”
Unfortunately, Michelle's character Tina left the show under tragic circumstances. After splitting with Peter Barlow, she confronted Carla Connor's brother Rob Donovan over his dodgy dealings at Underworld, threatening to tell Carla. The confrontation ended with her falling from the balcony of the Builders Yard to the cobbles, but when Rob discovered she had survived the plunge, he beat her with a metal pipe. Tina was rushed to hospital, initially surviving surgery for her injuries, but later died after suffering a heart attack.
Michelle Keegan has certainly come a long way since leaving Coronation Street, but it's clear she still holds fond memories of her time on the show.
