Hey there! It's the weekend, which means it's time to catch up on all things property. Our weekly series, What I Rent/What I Own, is taking a short break this week, but we thought it would be a great opportunity to look back at some of our favorite stories from the past.

We've covered everything from houseboats to tiny apartments, exploring the world of rented and mortgaged properties. So without further ado, here's a round-up of some of our standout columns from the What I Rent/What I Own Hall of Fame.

Let's start with Alaina, who we visited in New York City back in October 2022. She works at a fashion agency and rents a studio apartment in Manhattan for $650 a month. It's small, only 80 sq ft, but she loves the freedom it gives her to explore the city.

We were also blown away by Tide's colorful one-bedroom flat in Leith, Scotland. She moved there on a whim and was able to decorate it to her heart's content, thanks to her accommodating landlord. Coming from London, where she paid a fortune for a tiny studio, she was thrilled to have more space to call home.

In April 2024, we visited Rachael and Euan's houseboat in London, and it was a joyous experience. They bought it for £125,000 and joined a mooring community in Bermondsey, where they've made it feel like home with their own personal touches. Rachael even has an indoor garden, and we couldn't get enough of the little skylights.

Last but certainly not least, we met Mike in November 2023, who lives on a £5million Cheshire farm with his wife and daughter. They didn't need a deposit for their home, as Mike was able to use profits from building and selling other projects to finance it. The house is designed to be sustainable and luxurious, inspired by nature and fitting in with the natural world.
