After 17 amazing years, Matthew Wolfenden's time on Emmerdale is coming to an end. The actor recently took to Instagram to share a poster for his next project - Elf the Musical - and revealed that he only has two days of filming left on the show.
"It's all getting very real!" he wrote. "2 days left at Emmerdale - 4 days until we start rehearsals for this amazing show!"
Matthew is set to play Buddy the Elf in the newest revival of the musical, based on the 2003 film which starred Will Ferrell. However, his character, David Metcalfe, will remain on screen for a few more weeks, with plenty of drama yet to come before his departure.
Viewers have recently seen David's son Jacob grow close to his ex, Victoria, with the pair almost sharing a kiss before being interrupted by David. When The Agency caught up with Matt at the CUREUsher ball, he couldn't go into too much detail about his exit, but he did tease that it would be connected to the relationship between Jacob and Victoria.
"That relationship with Jacob and Victoria is a huge reason why David eventually leaves the village," he said. ‘There is going to be a few tears and a few fights, and that's all I can say!"
He also made it clear that David doesn't leave the village in a hearse, so there is still the possibility for him to return in the future. ‘What I can say is I'm not dying, which is a good thing! I don't die, so maybe David will come back in a few years.’
So while Matthew's time on Emmerdale is coming to an end, there's still a chance we could see David Metcalfe gracing our screens once again. We'll just have to wait and see!
