Man stabs wife to death after taking drugs purchased on dark web.
Conrad Iyayi is on trial for the murder of his wife, Kathryn Harris. On February 5, 2022, Derby Crown Court heard that Iyayi had taken drugs from the dark web and ingested them while their 11-year-old son was sleeping upstairs. As a result, he 'brutally and needlessly' killed his wife in their family home.

Gordon Aspen KC, prosecuting, described the scene the next morning, when Iyayi found his wife face down in a pool of blood and wearing just a t-shirt, surrounded by three kitchen knives stained with blood and an open bottle of brandy.

The 11-year-old had slept through the attack and therefore knew nothing of his mother's death. Iyayi had dialled 999 from a telephone box outside his house, and upon being asked who he had killed, he simply answered 'my wife'. Upon arriving at the police station, Iyayi asked what he was being arrested for, to which he received an answer of murder.

In custody, Iyayi made a number of remarks, including a confession of buying methadone from the dark web. He claimed he was hallucinating, felt like his heart was beating and thought he was going to die. Iyayi also said that before the incident, he and Kathryn had a nice evening cooking and watching television, and that he had no intention of harming her.

Kathryn was an art teacher at a special needs school in Mickleover, Derbyshire, and also had two adult children. Iyayi denies murder and the case is ongoing.
