The family of Peter Pelling, 61, has been left in deep sorrow after he tragically died in a car accident caused by the severe weather conditions during Storm Babet.
Mr Pelling was swept away in floodwater near Marykirk in Aberdeenshire during the early hours of Friday, and his body and vehicle were recovered by police officers on Monday.
The family released a statement expressing their appreciation for the first responders and all of the emergency services teams involved in what was a particularly difficult rescue due to the weather and environmental conditions.
“Peter was a very kind, loyal and hardworking man,” they said. “He was a much-loved son, brother, uncle, partner and friend. Our family are absolutely devastated by this horrific and tragic accident.”
The family asked for privacy while they come to terms with their incredible loss.
Storm Babet has caused immense rain and severe flooding to parts of the UK, tragically resulting in seven deaths across the country. Mr Pelling was one of those whose lives were taken too soon.
