Tragedy struck near a beautiful spot north of Lisbon on Tuesday night when a British man lost his life in a paragliding accident.
Witnesses reported the incident to emergency services at around 9 pm, yet medical experts were unable to save him when they arrived at the scene.
The man, who has yet to be identified, was found on the ground in an area of 'difficult access' and had already gone into cardiac arrest. It remains unclear if the victim had been living in Portugal or visiting as a tourist.
The accident occurred in the Vale Bom area of Cadaval, near to the Montejunto Mountains an hour north of Lisbon. An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident.
It has been suggested that the man may have been partaking in powered paragliding, also known as paramotoring. This activity involves a motorized backpack which provides the necessary thrust for take-off.
