Tragedy struck the Walton area of Merseyside on Thursday morning as a 49-year-old man succumbed to serious burns sustained after allegedly setting himself on fire outside of a McDonald’s restaurant.
Emergency responders, including police and fire crews, were quickly dispatched to the scene at around 5:50am and discovered the man in need of urgent medical attention. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but unfortunately passed away on Friday.
The death is not being treated as suspicious, and the man’s next of kin have been informed. A file has been passed to the coroner.
