Maldives leader wishes India a happy Independence Day
Male: On the occasion of India's Independence Day, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the people of India. Our friendship, rooted in history, has evolved into a close and cooperative partnership that has greatly contributed to the development and prosperity of the Maldives. I am confident that our partnership will continue to strengthen in the future, driving mutual prosperity and shared goals.

Earlier this week, I had the honor of meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to handover completed water supply and sewerage facilities on 28 islands in the Maldives, funded by the Government of India's Line of Credit facility through the Exim Bank of India. During this meeting, I expressed my deep gratitude to PM Modi, the Indian government, and the friendly people of India for their generous and continued assistance to the Maldives. India has always been one of our closest allies and invaluable partners, providing aid whenever we have needed it.

These projects are significant milestones in our bilateral relations with India and will bring significant economic benefits to our country. They will also contribute to the growth of our local economies and help us achieve greater prosperity as a nation. I am grateful for the strong partnership we have with India and I look forward to its continued success.

During my recent visit to India for the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Modi, I had the opportunity to meet with both the Prime Minister and President Droupadi Murmu. I am thankful for the invitation and the chance to strengthen our relationship with India. Today, as India celebrates its 78th Independence Day, I join in paying tribute to the freedom fighters and their sacrifices.

This year's Independence Day theme is 'Viksit Bharat 2047', highlighting the government's goal of making India a developed country by 2047, which marks 100 years of Independence. The focus is on government policies and programs that will lead to progress and development for the nation. I am confident that India will continue to make great strides towards achieving its goals and we are proud to be a part of this journey as your close ally and partner.
