As of now, a total of 30 flights have been called off. This includes both arrivals and departures from Edinburgh airport, as an "IT issue" has caused all air traffic to come to a halt. According to a representative from the airport, engineers have been diligently working to resolve the problem at hand. In order to avoid any inconvenience, the statement posted on X urges passengers to first double-check their flight status with their respective airlines before heading to the airport.
The situation first came to light when passengers were notified about the suspension of flights at 3.55pm on this Sunday, December 15th. Shortly after, the airport announced that they would provide an update at 4.30pm. At 4.40pm, the spokesperson confirmed that the engineers were still actively working on finding a solution.
Pictures taken at the airport show travelers waiting in long lines inside the terminal, after being informed that no flights will be taking off or landing for the time being. So far, 30 flights have been cancelled, while a number of others have been redirected to Manchester and Glasgow. The remaining flights are expected to take off after 6.30pm.
