Venice, the city of marble palaces and basilicas, is a place of immense beauty and history. I have visited five times, but it wasn't until my most recent trip that I discovered the private island of Isola delle Rose. Located just a 15-minute shuttle ride or a private water taxi ride away from the city center, this island is a favorite of A-list celebrities.
The JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa is the only accommodation on Isola delle Rose. It is a 40-acre luxury hideaway surrounded by olive groves and gardens. Upon arrival, you will be taken directly to the lobby by a boat. This is a great opportunity to experience a little bit of James Bond style glamour!
The resort offers a wide range of amenities, including a stunning church, three pools, and a heavenly spa. At night, the spa is especially tranquil and provides the perfect opportunity to relax after a day of exploring Venice.
The resort's restaurant, Agli Amici Dopolavoro, is a great place to sample some of the local cuisine. The menu is inspired by the home grown vegetable garden on the island and the fresh fish caught nearby. The eleven courses I had were some of the best I have ever tasted. The luscious aperitifs, perfectly prepared oysters, rose risotto, and white chocolate soil dessert was truly a unique dining experience. Not to mention the wonderful tableside Negroni and the excellent wine pairings.
Venice is a city of incomparable beauty, with a rich history etched into every wall. I've been there five times, yet I still felt I hadn't seen it all - until my most recent visit. I was lucky enough to explore the private island of Isola delle Rose, adored by A-list celebrities. It's only a 15-minute shuttle from central Venice, or alternatively you could opt for a private water taxi.
The only accommodation on the island is the five-star JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa, nestled amongst olive groves and gardens. It's the perfect setting for a relaxing retreat after a day of exploring the city. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, it's the ideal spot for a James Bond-style escape.
On arrival, the only way to enter the hotel is by boat into the lobby. The resort offers a beautiful church, three pools and a tranquil spa with steam rooms, saunas, facials and massages. I would highly recommend visiting at night for an extra special experience.
The highlight of my trip was the exquisite gastronomic journey at Agli Amici Dopolavoro. This is where locals and tourists alike flock to experience the culinary delights of Emanuele and Michela Scarello, who have two Michelin stars to their name. The eleven-course menu was inspired by the home grown vegetable garden and the fresh fish caught nearby.
The meal included an array of exquisite dishes such as anchovies, oyster, jellyfish, rose risotto, glazed tuna, wasabi sorbet and white chocolate soil desert. Every course was paired with a tableside mixologist’s smoky Negroni and expertly chosen wines. It was four hours of pure bliss and the best meal I have ever had.
Isola delle Rose is a hidden gem, but definitely worth discovering. From the relaxing spa to the incredible gastronomic journey, I can't recommend it highly enough.
