Luke Littler's dream of becoming the youngest ever winner of the World Darts Championship came to an end on Tuesday night, when he faced off against Luke Humphries in the final. The boisterous crowd at Alexandra Palace saw Humphries emerge victorious 7-4 in front of a boisterous crowd, claiming his first World Darts Championship title and becoming the new world number one in the process.
Littler had been preparing for the match in humble fashion, beginning with a ham and cheese omlette for breakfast, before boosting his energy reserves with a pizza for lunch. His girlfriend Eloise Milburn was also present to show her support, and despite being defeated, Littler will still walk away with a hefty cheque.
As the runner-up, Littler will be awarded a prize of £200,000. Had he won the tournament, he would have won £500,000. Before the match, Humphries was the 4/6 favourite, and Littler had previously earned just over £20,000 from the PDC Development Tour.
Despite the money Littler will receive, he has modest plans for how he intends to spend his winnings. In a statement last week, he said: ‘All my friends are watching at home, we’ve always said we need to go Blackpool or Alton Towers so I think they will be looking at me like ‘you’re paying, Luke’ and I’ll be like, yeah, okay!’
