It is truly shameful to see the lack of donations in Silicon Valley, a hub for technological advancements and the state of California, which boasts the fourth largest economy in the world. How is it possible that in such a prosperous region, there is a shortage of donations? Have these companies not learned anything about philanthropy?

In a recent front-page article, the housing crisis in the Bay Area was addressed. It highlighted the struggles of families working multiple jobs, relying on food banks, and living in overcrowded apartments. Yet, instead of focusing on these pressing issues, the article chose to showcase a double-income tech-worker family living in a spacious home. This tone-deaf reporting only adds to the frustration and disappointment felt by those in desperate need of affordable housing.

Another front-page news story that caught our attention was the tragic shooting of Brian Thompson. While it is important to shed light on such incidents, it is equally important to give the same level of coverage to all gun violence. Every victim, regardless of their status, deserves the same attention and recognition. Perhaps, with more widespread coverage of gun violence, our society will finally take action to address this pressing issue.

In light of the current political climate, it is understandable that President Biden would pardon his son to prevent any potential retribution from the incoming administration. After all, the previous administration had a track record of strategically replacing judges and firing those associated with their own convictions. It is ironic for any Trump supporter to criticize Biden's actions when their own president had a history of pardoning individuals and planning to do more in the future.

Turning our attention to a more global issue, it is evident that vaccinations are crucial for public health. However, the politicization of vaccinations has led to a decline in flu vaccinations, resulting in more severe flu seasons and increased rates of infection. To combat this, governments must mandate flu vaccinations and remove the political stigma surrounding them. Vaccines should be viewed as a life-saving tool, not a political statement.

Lastly, it is important to recognize the crucial role that the Amazon forest plays in the fight against climate change. Its vast expanse has the capacity to absorb a significant amount of carbon, yet it is being cut down at an alarming rate for agricultural purposes. The responsibility of protecting the Amazon forest should not solely fall on the countries in which it grows, but rather be a global effort.

In a world where urgent issues demand our attention, it is vital for us to focus on the bigger picture and work together towards finding solutions. Let us depoliticize important matters and prioritize the well-being of our planet and its inhabitants.
