Las Vegas has a new Black-owned bookstore, its first in a decade.
Tamara Shiloh has finally achieved her dream of opening a Black-owned bookshop in Sin City. On November 5th, Multicultural Books Las Vegas opened its doors to the public in the historic Westside Kingdom Plaza. This is Shiloh's second store, with the first being located in Richmond, California.

Shiloh has partnered with co-owner Carol Santiago to create an inclusive and educational space for communities of all kinds. She emphasized that her bookstore offers something unique - a safe and inclusive space. She said, “Our bookstore, we want it to be a safe space for people to come, sit down and enjoy the books. I guess what sets us apart is most of our books are face-forward so that when children walk in, they see themselves, and they realize there are books written about them as well.”

This new store has a wide selection of genres and reading levels for readers of all ages and backgrounds. The website bolsters books representing “cultures including African American, Latino, Native American, Asian, South Asian, Middle Eastern and Filipino” as well as themes such as LGBTQ, disability, diversity, social justice, STEM, Black history, African history, and Graphic Novels.

Shiloh is proud to show her commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion with her new store. She hopes to create an environment where anyone can find something that appeals to them. Multicultural Books Las Vegas is sure to be a great success, and Shiloh is thrilled to be able to provide a safe and welcoming space for readers of all kinds.
