His Majesty King Charles III arrived at the Braemar Royal Highland Gathering, a short distance from his summer residence at Balmoral in Aberdeenshire, wearing a new tartan named after him. The King Charles III tartan was designed by the Scottish Tartans Authority and features shades of green, blue and red to mark his coronation.

This was the first time the King has appeared as monarch at the games, though he did often attend as the Prince of Wales. The royal family even used a photograph taken at the games last year for one of their Christmas cards. Traditionally, the monarch also becomes Chief of the Gathering, though an announcement regarding the King has yet to be made.
