Kinara in Glasgow is a must-visit spot for an unforgettable dining experience.
Ever since I was a kid, I've dreamed of going to India. I've heard so many incredible stories from friends who have been lucky enough to visit, but unfortunately, my own plans to go have never quite materialized. However, my luck recently changed when I was invited to try out Kinara, one of Glasgow's newest Indian restaurants, by none other than chef Shabu Natarajan himself.

Kinara, which means 'river banks' and 'cutting edge' in Hindi, opened its doors at the end of last year and is the latest venture for Natarajan, who previously spent years as the head chef at Madras Cafe, a beloved Indian restaurant in Glasgow that was voted the best in Scotland last year. Natarajan's vision for Kinara is to showcase traditional Indian cuisine in a relaxed and homely atmosphere, featuring dishes from all corners of the country, from the spice-laden dishes of the Mughal emperors to the coastal delights of the South.

Our meal began with some poppadoms and chutneys, a classic starter in Indian cuisine, before diving into the main course. We were treated to a variety of dishes, including succulent tandoori Monkfish, crispy chicken pakora, and Hariyali chaat, which consisted of spinach and potato lentil fritters topped with tangy yogurt and spicy chutney. Each dish was bursting with flavor and expertly prepared by Natarajan and his team.

For our mains, we had Chandni chicken tikka from the tandoori menu, which was fiery and packed with heat thanks to the addition of Guntur chilli powder. The Kashmiri lamb rogan josh was a personal favorite, with incredibly tender meat swimming in a rich and flavorful sauce. And of course, no Indian meal is complete without some naan and rice, both of which were cooked to perfection.

But what truly set Kinara apart was the impeccable service we received. Our waiter took the time to explain the cultural significance and traditions behind each dish, giving us a deeper understanding and appreciation for the food we were enjoying. It was a lovely touch and added to the overall experience.

While I may not have made it to India just yet, my visit to Kinara was a delicious and satisfying substitute. I highly recommend giving it a try for anyone looking to experience traditional Indian cuisine in a new and refreshing way. You won't be disappointed. Kinara can be found at 10 King Street in Glasgow and you can read more reviews here. Make sure to subscribe to Scottish Field to stay up-to-date with the latest and greatest in Scottish culture.
