The Regional Transport Officer of Indore has decided to permanently suspend the driving licenses of those who violate traffic rules, especially those who jump the red light. The RTO has partnered with the traffic police to launch a campaign against traffic rule violators in the city.
Pradeep Sharma, the Regional Transport Officer, stated that “on the orders of Ilayaraja T, the collector, we have started a campaign against traffic rule violators in collaboration with the traffic police. We have also decided to permanently suspend the driving license of habitual offenders. This would prevent them from obtaining a license from any transport office in the country.”
He further revealed that the RTO has already suspended the licenses of 2,750 drivers on the recommendation of the traffic police since April. “We have suspended the license of 2750 drivers for violating traffic rules in the last eight months. Now, we are going to suspend their license permanently and those found driving without a valid license will be prosecuted,” Sharma said.
The RTO also pointed out that they are taking strict action against those who talk on the phone while driving, drink and drive, overload buses, and other behaviors that put lives in danger. In the past two months, they have taken action against 1,050 vehicles for violating traffic laws and fined them Rs 12 lakh. Moreover, they plan to run a campaign for a couple of months across the city.
On Wednesday, the RTO launched a drive against the haphazard driving and parking of E-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws. This campaign is part of their effort to control the traffic menace in the city.
