Judge Greg Mathis, a respected figure in the legal system, has recently expressed his disapproval of former President Donald Trump. In a candid interview with The Grio, released on July 11, Mathis did not hold back on his criticism of Trump, highlighting the need to prevent him from returning to the White House.
"Our biggest objective is to ensure that Donald Trump does not get reelected," Mathis exclaimed passionately. "I firmly believe that he is not in the best interest of the poor and marginalized communities. He has proven to be dishonest and is just one step away from being a full-blown con man."
Mathis also pointed out that Trump has already shown his disregard for the Black community. He mentioned the former president's statement during his campaign, where he told Black voters that they should support him because he related to them, having faced 34 felony convictions. Mathis also brought up Trump's comment during the June 28 debate, where he referred to "Black jobs."
"How insulting is it for someone to say that they identify with you because you are a criminal?" Mathis questioned. "Or to assume that all Black men care about is buying expensive shoes instead of discussing important policies? And let's not forget when he insinuated that immigrants were taking away jobs from Black Americans."
While Mathis did not endorse any specific candidate, he urged people to do their research and look at the actions taken by the Trump administration. He highlighted the significant budget cuts to the Department of Urban Housing and Development, which disproportionately affected Black Americans.
However, Mathis also expressed his disappointment with President Biden, particularly after his poor performance in the debate. He believes that there has not been enough discussion on issues that are crucial to the Black community, such as crime, policing, and training for artificial intelligence.
"I'm not as concerned about the missteps as I am about the lack of focus on policies that matter to us," Mathis explained. "We need to talk about crime and policing in our neighborhoods, and we need better training for AI. These are issues that deeply affect our community, and I didn't hear enough about them during the campaign."
Despite his reservations, Mathis believes that Vice President Kamala Harris could rise to the occasion if something were to happen to President Biden. In the meantime, he urged people to stay strong and informed as the election approaches.
"If, God forbid, something were to happen to President Biden in the next four years, we have a great candidate in Vice President Harris," Mathis shared. "I know that some may be tempted to support a different direction, but until we have a viable option for victory, we need to stay united and strong."
