The New Year is just around the corner and it's the perfect time to set resolutions and make a difference. Are you ready for an adventure that will not only challenge you physically, but also support a great cause? Look no further, because Metro's brand new Lifeline challenge is calling your name.
Taking place on the beautiful Isle of Wight in May, this event offers three different distances to choose from: 25km, 53km, or 106km. You can walk or run, depending on your fitness level, and all while surrounded by stunning British scenery. Plus, by participating, you'll be helping raise funds for Metro Lifeline's chosen charity for 2025: Missing People.
Missing People is the only charity in the UK dedicated to reconnecting missing individuals with their loved ones. Every 90 seconds, someone is reported missing in the UK, leaving behind 170,000 families who are left feeling lonely, scared, and uncertain. By joining the Lifeline challenge, you can help support this incredible organization and their efforts to bring these families back together.
'Last year's Lifeline event along the Jurassic Coast was an incredible adventure,' says Metro's Deputy Editor, Claie Wilson. 'Not only did we feel a sense of achievement after completing such a challenging trek, but we also knew that we were doing it for a great cause. It's an experience that creates lasting memories and is truly good for the soul.'
The Isle of Wight, also known as 'Dinosaur Island' for its prehistoric history, is a must-visit location for avid walkers. The route for this year's challenge will include iconic landmarks like the Needles and a stroll through the historic town of Cowes. Participants will also receive perks like hot drinks at the start line, free food and sweets at checkpoints, and a discounted ferry ride courtesy of event organizers Ultra Challenge.
'Last year's Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge raised an impressive £580,000 for UK charities, and we hope to surpass that total this year,' says Jan Smolaga, Business Development Manager at Ultra Challenge. With over 2,000 people expected to join, there's an option for everyone, from a 25km quarter challenge to the full 100km loop around the island.
By joining forces with Metro for their 2025 Lifeline campaign, Missing People CEO Jo Youle adds, 'We are so thrilled! Please sign up for the Isle of Wight challenge and start fundraising. Or, you can donate to the Lifeline campaign and help someone find support and safety. Together, we will be raising vital funds for our Helpline, Support Workers, and counselling, saving lives and providing comfort during the most difficult of times. Thank you to Metro and every reader for this brilliant support throughout 2025.'
