Jeremy Clarkson has recently criticised Sir David Attenborough's latest nature documentaries, but we whole-heartedly disagree. Sir David is a national treasure and an inspiration to many. He has dedicated his life to making the world a better place, and we are more than willing to defend him with our whole chest.
In his latest column, Jeremy, 63, wrote some pretty savage criticism about the third series of Planet Earth. Although he praised the photography, he stated that the script drove him 'insane'. He called the previous series 'fascinating' as he learnt about mating, habitats, and how they caught food. He also took a dislike to Sir David's attempt to educate us on the impact of global warming.
Jeremy wrote in The Sun: 'Now all we ever get is: "Here's a see-through fish with an orange stomach, and it's future is threatened by climate change". And then it's: "Here's something with pointy teeth and soon it will be wiped out by global warming". We know already. So please, in future, tell us about the animals, not the bloody weather.'
While everyone is entitled to an opinion, we don't agree with Jeremy. Sir David has used his dulcet voice to inform and educate us on the natural world, and it would be a huge loss if he decided to stop.
Sir David also broke hearts with his self-deprecating comment about Planet Earth during a clip on The One Show. He explained that he was writing the commentary, so the show often 'surprised' him. He added, in a supremely self-deprecating fashion, that 'perhaps your words aren't all that necessary'.
We can only hope that Jeremy's criticism won't stop Sir David from continuing to inspire us with his documentaries. Planet Earth III continues Sunday at 6:15pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
