It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jane Whittenshaw, a much loved and highly respected client of over 30 years. Jane passed away peacefully on Saturday last, surrounded by her husband Hugh, best friend Rebecca and carers.

Jane Whittenshaw was an accomplished screen, stage and radio actress who is best known for her roles in EastEnders, Call the Midwife and Broadchurch. In EastEnders, she played the part of social worker Anita Banks in 1997. She was introduced when she helped Mark and Ruth Fowler apply to foster a child. Jane was also a regular presence in The Bill, Casualty and Grange Hill.

In the popular BBC One midwife drama, Call the Midwife, Jane portrayed Nurse Barrington during the 2017 series. On Broadchurch, she played Linda in the 2017 series that saw Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller investigate the rape of Trish Winterman. Her final role was on All 4’s series, I Hate You, in 2022.
