Jackson PD allegedly neglected to inform Moore's family he had died since early Feb.
Similar to BLACK ENTERPRISE’s previous reporting on the family of Dexter Wade’s fight for justice, Marrio Moore’s family has gone through a similar experience. Marrio was beaten to death on February 2, and buried in a pauper's grave in July, yet the Jackson Police Department failed to notify the family until October 12.

Marquita Moore, Marrio’s sister, only found out when her aunt sent her a text message with a link to an article revealing that the Jackson Police Department had failed to notify families of at least 24 homicide victims. She was devastated, saying, “Lord, this is my brother. Someone done killed my brother”.

Marquita Moore immediately put on outside clothes and drove to the Jackson Police Department headquarters in search of answers. The officer told her that no one was available, so over the next few days, the family slowly got more heartbreaking information from the authorities. Marrio had allegedly been beaten to death, wrapped in a tarp, and laid out on the street.

For months, his body was at the Hinds County morgue, unclaimed by any family members. Finally, on July 14, Marrio was buried in a pauper's field. Mary Moore Glenn, Marrio’s mother, still has not accepted the news and is questioning why the police didn’t let her know sooner or give her a chance to say goodbye to her son.

Marcedes Onchukwu, Marrio’s sister, understands why he kept his distance from the family, saying, “If you tried to get too close to him, he knew what he was doing and he knew somebody was going to tell him, ‘You need to do this or do that.’ So he stayed away for that reason. Because he basically didn’t want nobody, I guess, shaming him because of his choices.”

When the family got ready to have Marrio’s funeral, they couldn’t have a service with a body in a casket due to the way his body had deteriorated. They held a memorial service on October 20 at Nu Vision Worship Center in Jackson, but even that couldn’t bring Mary Moore Glenn the closure she needed. She sadly said, “It really didn’t do anything. Because he was just a picture. It wasn’t the person. The last time I’m going to see him is that picture. I’m not going to see him no more. It hurts bad that he’s gone. But nobody thought that I was important enough to let me know about my child. Nobody thought that my family was important enough.”

Rev. Al Sharpton has called on the Department of Justice to investigate Dexter Wade’s death, and it is expected that inquiries will be made into Marrio Moore’s case as well. It is a tragedy that these families have to go through such immense pain and suffering, and hopefully, justice will be served soon.
