Big Brother is returning to our screens in October, and this time they're getting the royal treatment. ITV, the new channel host for the show, have made a huge commitment to the show, reportedly launching the series on ITV1 before moving to their permanent home on ITV2. This is something that even Love Island, a dating show juggernaut, didn't get for any of its series.
A TV insider told The Sun that ITV are hoping this move to give the programme "the most high-profile spot possible" will ensure the launch episode goes off with a bang. They said, "They're hoping that a sensational start will hook the maximum number of viewers on the main channel, then bring them across to ITV2 for the rest of the series."
Big Brother was originally launched on Channel 4 in 2000, before moving to Channel 5 in 2011 and then ending in 2018. This reboot will have Will Best, 38, and AJ Odudu, 35, as the new hosts. ITV’s Head of Reality TV and ITV2, Paul Mortimer, has revealed that viewers will be treated to hours of Big Brother each night. He said, "We have a 10pm show after the 9pm show — so two hours of Big Brother every evening. Then from 11pm you can go to ITVX to watch the live feed into the small hours."
The exciting news doesn't stop there. Paul also revealed that a celebrity spinoff has been practically confirmed. When asked about the prospect of a celebrity version, he said at the Edinburgh TV festival, "We have bought into Big Brother, a lot of us at ITV are BB fans. I can't imagine that we're in it just to do two, six-week runs across 2023 and 2024. This is the start of it – so just watch this space."
Are you ready to welcome Big Brother back? We know we are! Tune in to ITV2 in October to catch the launch episode, and to see what the newest series of Big Brother has in store.
