Blake Lively's upcoming movie hit a roadblock this week with production suspended in New Jersey. The rom-com is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover's bestselling novel It Ends With Us, and Lively was last seen in costume for the film on June 9.
Alongside Lively as the lead character Lily Bloom is Justin Baldoni, who will play her love interest Ryle. Unfortunately, the halt in production has halted plans for the movie, with Deadline reporting that less than half of the script had been filmed.
The news was delivered to the cast and crew via an email from Wayfarer Studios and Justin, who is also directing the film. The email reportedly said: “Due to the ongoing WGA strike and the lost days we have experienced due to picketing, we must make the difficult decision to temporarily shut down production. We want to express our deepest gratitude for your incredible patience and unwavering dedication throughout this challenging period.”
A crew member described the mood on set following the announcement of the hiatus. They said: “It was a mixture — people were upset because they liked working with Justin. There was already tension about some ADs who’d been fired. People were sad but also respected the WGA picket situation. The more solidarity we can have with the WGA, making the producers talk to the writers and get them back to the negotiating table, the faster everyone will get back to work.”
Filming stopped on Monday, after the production failed to come to an agreement with the WGA and the continued picketing. According to Deadline, the reason for the halt in shooting scenes was due to an inability to persuade the WGA that the co-financing status of Wayfarer Studios was enough to consider the production was within WGA guidelines.
For now, fans will have to wait until the dispute is resolved before they can enjoy the movie. Hopefully it won't be too much longer!
