India's surface-to-air missile successfully tested in flight
On Thursday, in Balasore, there was a successful test conducted by the Defence Research & Development Organisation and the Indian Navy. The test involved a vertical launch short-range surface-to-air missile being launched from Chandipur, which is located off the coast of Odisha. The officials from the defence department shared this news with the public.

The test was carried out at around 3 pm from an integrated test range in Chandipur. The target for this flight test was a high-speed aerial object flying at a low altitude. The missile system was able to successfully track and engage the target, according to the officials. This test was an important step in validating various updated components of the weapon system, as mentioned by the defence officials.

The performance of the system was closely monitored and confirmed by different instruments, such as telemetry deployed at ITR Chandipur. The Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, commended the teams from DRDO and the Indian Navy for their accomplishment. He also stated that this test serves as a testament to the reliability and effectiveness of the VL-SRSAM weapon system. The Chairman of DRDO, Dr Samir V Kamat, also extended his congratulations to the teams involved. He emphasized that this system will greatly enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy and act as a force multiplier.

Prior to the test, the district administration took necessary precautions by shifting around 3,100 residents living within a radius of 2.5 kilometres of the launch pad to temporary shelters. A district official from Balasore shared that these people will need to be shifted again to temporary camps on Friday. The residents have been advised to start shifting from 5 am to temporary shelters and return to their homes once the administration gives them the green signal, as informed by a revenue officer. These measures were taken in consultation with the ITR authority at Chandipur to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
