India's Coffee Exports Rise 25% During the First Half of the Year

Bengaluru, Jul. 9: India's coffee exports registered a growth of 25% in the first six months of 2026 (January-June 2026) as compared to 2,04,265 tonnes in the same period last year. Exporters earned 13% more value during the period at $1.30 billion, compared to $1.15 billion in the same period last year, according to data from the Coffee Board of India.

The increase in exports was due to demand for Robusta coffee from traditional and new markets. Despite disruptions in shipments to West Asia due to the US-Iran war, exporters managed to secure orders from erstwhile customers in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan, said Ramesh Raja, president of the Coffee Exporters Association.

In rupee terms, the value of total coffee exports rose to Rs 12,143 crore between January and June 2026, from Rs 9,920 crore in the first half of 2025. “Indian exporters have been able to revive some markets like Jordan where demand had declined. Due to the West Asian war, exporters have been able to ship their goods to buyers in Egypt via the Cape of Good Hope. There is good demand for Indian Robusta coffee in these countries,” Raja said.

Indian exporters also benefited as Vietnam’s exports registered a decline in the last few months, he said. “India’s exports in the next six months are likely to be more or less in the range of last year’s shipments. Prices are also improving as bad weather is hampering the ongoing coffee harvest in Brazil,” he said.

Italy, Germany, the Russian Federation, Belgium and Turkey account for the majority of Indian coffee exports. India's total exports in the first six months of this year included 1,26,180 tonnes of Robusta and 44,060 tonnes of Arabica. The country exported 89,368 tonnes of instant coffee during this period. According to the data, India is the seventh largest coffee producer in the world after Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, Indonesia, Ethiopia and Uganda. Approximately 70 per cent of India's coffee production is exported, with about 59 per cent of total exports being coffee and the remaining 41 per cent being instant (instant) coffee.
