The highly-anticipated HBCUniverse Summit, focusing on the future of HBCU entrepreneurship and innovation, is set to make its return this September. After a successful event at Morgan State University during Black History Month, Venture for T.H.E.M. and THINK PGC are partnering once again to bring the second installment to life. Their mission? To celebrate and highlight the achievements of the HBCU community in the realms of entrepreneurship and innovation.
The summit promises to offer a multitude of opportunities for HBCU students, including engaging panels and networking sessions with established leaders from various sectors. Topics of discussion will range from the future of startup fundraising to tech and innovation, media and culture, and even digital currency. In addition, attendees can look forward to diverse workshops, HBCU trivia, and a pitch competition, all of which were met with great enthusiasm at the previous event, attended by over 450 people.
One of the highlights of the summit was the keynote speech delivered by Dia Simms, CEO of Lobos 1707 Tequila. As a successful Black woman in business, Simms shared her inspiring journey and offered valuable insights to the eager audience. The list of esteemed guest speakers at HBCUniverse included over 20 individuals, and the virtual nature of the event allowed for participation from people all over the world. Not only that, but the summit also partnered with more than 30 sponsors and partners, in addition to government agencies offering internships and job opportunities.
Amidst the excitement and buzz surrounding the summit, Vice President Kamala Harris, an alum of Howard University, took a moment to extend her congratulations for the inaugural event. She expressed her hope that the summit would serve as a source of motivation to lift up young Black students and professionals, who are the future of our nation. As a proud HBCU graduate herself, Harris looks forward to seeing all that this community will achieve and thanks them for their contributions to their communities and the country.
In a similar vein, Governor Wes Moore of Maryland also shared his thoughts on the commencement of the summit. He acknowledged the potential of the ideas and work showcased at the event, stating that they have the power to change the world. Moore also encouraged the next generation of leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs to continue working towards their goals and chasing their dreams. It is truly inspiring to see such support and recognition from influential leaders towards the HBCU community.
HBCUniverse continues to uplift and celebrate the accomplishments of students and alumni in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation. The upcoming summit in September promises to be bigger and better, with more information to be shared on their social media platforms. This event is just one of the many ways in which HBCUs are making strides in promoting diversity and excellence, as exemplified by Spelman College, the first HBCU to offer a program in cosmetic chemistry, a major win for women in STEM. The future is bright for HBCUs and their students, and HBCUniverse is leading the way in showcasing their talent and potential.
