In Odisha, people were hurt and stores were damaged during a clash between villagers over a disagreement about boundaries.
In Bhubaneswar, a clash between residents of two villages in Khurda district turned violent on Wednesday. The confrontation resulted in several injuries and the destruction of three to four shops, according to police reports.

This incident occurred just a few days after the lifting of prohibitory orders, which were imposed in the area following a previous outburst of violence over the same boundary dispute. Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Sharma informed reporters that this morning, stone-pelting between residents of Ostapur and Kotapalla villages in the Baghamari police station area caused numerous injuries and damaged property. Even the CCTV camera, installed by the police to monitor the situation, was not spared from the chaos.

In response, security forces were quickly deployed to the area to restore peace and order. Three platoons of police, totaling 90 personnel, have been stationed in the area to prevent further violence.

The root cause of the conflict was the installation of a signboard marking the boundary between the two villages, as stated by police authorities. In August, a similar dispute led to violence and the imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. However, these orders were recently lifted after the situation improved.

Superintendent Sharma assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted and appropriate action will be taken. He also added that those responsible for damaging the CCTV will not be spared from consequences.

According to an administrative official, after the previous instance of violence, a meeting was organized by the sub-collector to facilitate peace between the two villages. Similar efforts will now have to be taken once again to restore harmony in the area.

PTI and Orissa POST, the leading daily newspaper in Odisha, have reported on this incident.
