In Kendrapara, a district in Odisha, the authorities of Bhitarkanika National Park took action on Tuesday to remove any illegal structures within the park's boundaries. The assistant chief conservator, Manas Kumar Das, warned that strict action would be taken against anyone who resists the eviction drives. It was also mentioned that the Bhitarkanika National Park covers an impressive 145 square kilometers and houses a diverse range of flora and fauna.
The Orissa High Court had previously instructed the state government to quickly remove any unlawful prawn dykes in the internationally renowned Bhitarkanika wetland sites and to file criminal cases against the encroachers. In response, the Revenue, Forest, and police departments joined forces to demolish the earthen prawn dykes that had been illegally built along the wetland areas. However, officials have stated that there is still more work to be done in completely clearing the wetland sites of any encroachments.
