Ibrahima Konate is feeling hopeful about the prospect of Liverpool signing Khephren Thuram. After already securing Alexis Mac Allister in a £35 million deal from Brighton last week, Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his midfield options even further. Liverpool are in talks to sign the 22-year-old central midfielder, who is the son of World Cup winner Lilian Thuram and the younger brother of Marcus Thuram.
Konate was asked in a quickfire ‘yes or no’ interview with Telefoot if Thuram will be playing for Liverpool next season, to which he replied ‘Yes, I hope so’. He also spoke to RMC Sport earlier this week, describing Thuram’s progression as ‘incredible’ and expressing his surprise at the midfielder’s technical ability.
‘I would be very happy for him [Thuram] to come to Liverpool and I would take him under my wing and I would do everything for him to progress and become the player he wants to become,’ Konate said. ‘Khephren is like my little brother, he’s someone I saw growing up. I was with his big brother [Marcus] in the training centre, but I saw him grow. I saw him perform and progress at a level… it was incredible. Even when he came to the France team for his first selection. I saw him at the training and I was really surprised by his size and his technical ease.’
Konate clearly hopes for Thuram to sign with Liverpool, and it certainly sounds like he would be a great addition to the team. We’ll have to wait and see whether Liverpool can negotiate a deal for the talented 22-year-old and add him to their squad.
