Are you tired of dealing with slow buses, cramped commutes, and constant delays? Well, one Londoner has had enough and is taking matters into his own hands. Jordan Izzett, a 23-year-old from east London, has been racing against TfL transport in an attempt to outrun them.
Instead of paying the £1.75 bus fare, Jordan has been running the bus routes on foot. He started this racing saga last year and has already beaten many bus drivers, arriving at their final destinations before them on long routes. And we're not talking about short sprints here – Jordan has outrun buses with up to 50 stops, all while documenting his challenges on his TikTok account @jordanizzet.
In an interview with Metro, Jordan shared that he started this series as a way to keep his runs fun and challenging. And it seems like his friends and the wider London community have caught on to the excitement as well, encouraging him to continue.
In one of his latest videos, Jordan attempted to outrun the number 243 bus from Redvers Road in Wood Green all the way to Waterloo Station – a route with 57 stops. According to Google Maps, the journey should have taken an hour and 17 minutes. But as expected, Jordan managed to beat the bus and arrive at the station in just an hour and 11 minutes.
But this is not the only victory for Jordan. He has shared several routes on his TikTok account, gaining over 9,000 followers and 330,000 likes. People online have been amazed by his videos, calling them "brilliant" and "fabulous." Some even think that they highlight the embarrassing state of London's traffic.
When asked about his motivation for these challenges, Jordan shared that he loves the impact it has on his community, both inside and outside. He also loves everything about running, feeling free while doing it.
According to Jordan, the most challenging route he has taken on so far is the 123 from Wood Green to Ilford, which takes an hour and 29 minutes. In the video, he challenges the driver, who claims he doesn't want to lose. Throughout the route, Jordan passes through areas like Bruce Grove, Tottenham, and Walthamstow, even facing some rain along the way. In the end, he catches up to the same driver and admits defeat in the final 10 minutes. The driver tells him, "You won."
Reflecting on this challenge, Jordan shared that it was a tough one, especially since he was feeling sick that day and the route was quite long with empty roads and dual carriageways.
But outrunning buses is not the only challenge Jordan takes on. He has also completed the London Marathon and frequently sets himself extreme challenges, like a 24-mile run from Heathrow to London City Airport. And although he doesn't have a set plan for his next route, he likes to keep things spontaneous.
With an average of 4.6 million bus journeys in London every day, it's no wonder that Jordan's videos have gained so much attention. A recent report by London TravelWatch found that average bus speeds in central London have slowed down to 6.6mph. This means that it would actually be faster to walk or run some journeys in London, especially during peak hours.
When asked if he thinks TfL bus routes could be faster, Jordan is not entirely sure, but he does believe that the fares could be cheaper. And we couldn't agree more.
But Jordan's challenges don't stop at outrunning buses. He is always looking for new and extreme challenges to push himself. And who knows, maybe one day he'll be able to outrun the entire London transport system. We can't wait to see what he'll take on next.
