Hospital services affected in Jharigaon due to staff being deployed for election duties.
Residents of Jharigaon in Nabarangpur district are facing a serious issue with their healthcare services. Due to the ongoing elections, over 30% of the staff at the community centre and primary health centres have been assigned election duties. This has led to a shortage of qualified staff and patients are suffering as a result.

The recent polls for the Nabarangpur Lok Sabha constituency and seven Assembly segments, including Jharigaon, have taken a toll on the healthcare facilities in the area. It has been reported that the community health centre and five primary health centres are struggling to provide proper care to patients. The officials estimate that it will take at least 4-5 days for things to return to normal.

The severity of the situation came to light when a tragic accident occurred on the Jharigaon-Chandahandi road. 18 individuals were injured and had to be rushed to the CHC for treatment. However, due to the absence of doctors and qualified staff in the Emergency department, the treatment was delayed. This caused distress among the victims' relatives and the locals who had brought them to the CHC. The hospital authorities expressed their helplessness, as many of their staff members were assigned election duties.

In total, there are six healthcare centres in Jharigaon, including the CHC and five primary health centres. These facilities employ a total of 105 people, including doctors and pharmacists. However, due to the ongoing elections, eight employees have been sent to work at other hospitals. Out of the remaining 97 employees, 31 have been assigned to election duties. This includes all seven pharmacists, 15 multi-purpose health workers, one senior helper, three attendants, three sweepers, and two laboratory technicians.

The shortage of staff has led to a dire situation where nurses are providing emergency healthcare services and doctors are personally distributing medicines to patients. Even the medical officers are performing tasks that are not related to their training and expertise due to the lack of staff. The officials have assured that things will go back to normal once the employees return from their election duties. However, for now, the residents of Jharigaon are facing a major inconvenience due to the shortage of qualified healthcare staff.
